What to know before coming to the Amazon Rainforest

The vast expanse of the Amazon rainforest, spanning over 5 million square kilometers, stands as the unrivaled behemoth of jungle ecosystems, bisected by the mighty Amazon River, the lifeline of this green realm. Hosting an unparalleled array of flora and fauna, the Amazon offers an immersive experience like no other. Here are some essential insights for adventurers preparing to delve into this captivating wilderness:

  1. Connectivity Concerns: While you immerse yourself in the beauty and tranquility of the Amazon rainforest, we ensure you stay connected with the world. Our package includes Starlink internet access throughout your journey, even in the most remote areas of the jungle. Whether you're sharing your adventures in real time, staying in touch with loved ones, or simply enjoying the security of always being connected, you’ll have internet access wherever you go. Experience the wild without losing touch with modern comfort.

  2. Wild Encounters: Each Amazon excursion promises unique encounters with the diverse inhabitants of this biodiverse wonderland. With patience and a keen eye, visitors may catch glimpses of exotic birds, elusive mammals, and fascinating aquatic life.

  3. Navigating the Jungle: Accessing the Amazon’s finest peacock bass fishery means an international flight to the basin’s biggest city, Manaus. From there BPB arranges its angler’s travel to the Rio Negro basin where they board the elegant Tupana X yacht.

  4. Language Landscape: While English may suffice in tourist hubs, Brazil’s official language is Portuguese. A smattering of the local language can enhance interactions with indigenous communities. Offline translation tools can help bridge linguistic divides.

  5. Health and Safety: The regions we fish are “Blackwater” regions, free of mosquitos and thus free of mosquito borne diseases. Like all internation travel decisions, however, anglers should determine their personal health decisions in concert with their health care professional.

  6. Dietary Considerations: South America’s unique microbial ecosystem demands caution from visitors when sampling local fare. Stick to bottled water and avoid street food when in Manaus to prevent gastrointestinal woes. On board the Tupana X, all food is prepared with bottled water and is 100% safe for our guests. Bottled water, soft drinks, wine, beer and cocktails are all provided.

  7. Appropriate Attire: It’s hot during the day and the sun on the equator is stronger than anywhere you’ve been before.  Bring lightweight fishing attire, preferably with built-in sun protection. Good fishing hats to protect your face and neck are a must.  Use plenty of sunscreen.

  8. Seasonal Conditions: The Amazon's climate remains relatively consistent year-round, yet the dry season, spanning from August to March in our fishing region, offers the most favorable conditions for fishing and exploration. Our season is designed to take advantage of thes optimal conditions.

  9. Accommodation Options: From rustic jungle lodges to riverboat retreats, various accommodations cater to diverse preferences, ensuring a comfortable stay amidst nature's splendor.

  10. Guided Exploration: Respectful engagement with wildlife, adherence to local customs, and reliance on our experienced guides enhances the safety and enjoyment of your Amazon adventure.

  11. Trip Duration: Our trip packages of a week’s duration provide ample time to savor the Amazon's wonders, balancing travel logistics with immersive experiences.
